David Américo Ortiz Arias was born 18 November 1975, known as David Ortiz, nicknamed "Big Papi" is a Dominican American professional baseball designated hitter with the Boston Red Sox in Major League Baseball. In 2005, presented the Red Sox ownership to him with a plaque proclaiming Ortiz "the greatest clutch hitter in the history of the Boston Red Sox."
Ortiz hit the first of three back-to-back home runs, with the other home runs from Josh Reddick and Jarrod Saltalamacchia, respectively, versus the Baltimore Orioles. Every time Ortiz crosses the plate after hitting a home run, he looks up and points both index fingers to the sky in a tribute to his mother, Angela Rosa Arias, who died in a car accident in January 2002 at the age of 46 He made his Twins debut in September 1997. A couple of years, he moved back and forth between the twins and their minor league affiliate in Connecticut, New Britain Rock Cats. In 2002, Ortiz hit, 272 for Minnesota, with 20 home runs and 75 RBIs.
David Ortiz Children's Fund was founded in 2007 to support a variety of reasons that Ortiz believes in. The fund provides Ortiz flexibility to donate to these children are in most need at any time, from Boston to the Dominican Republic and elsewhere.
